After crowning the Empire Dodges Back the All Around Champions for Charity we can now let you know how much each team is donating to their charity. This is pretty exciting and way above any expectation we had for expanding the McHenryball Tournament of the past three years into the month long Champions for Charity fundraiser.
First of all, the top three finishers in the run to be the 2016 NPMS Champions for Charity are: 1st Place: The Empire Dodges Back (earning 39.6 points out of 46 possible points) 2nd Place: Bad 2 Da Bone (33 points) 3rd Place: You Wish! (29.9 points) Donations to charities will be as follows: The Empire Dodges Back will be donating $1906 to the Alzheimer’s Association. You Wish! Will be donating $1795 to the Make a Wish Foundation. Anony-moose will be donating $1546 to SOAP (Street Outreach and Advocacy Program) The Disco Ballers will be donating $1452.00 to the Boys and Girls Club. The Dodging Rebels will be donating $1432.50 to the Autism Society of Alaska. Bad 2 Da Bone will be donating $1213 to the Wound Warrior Project. The Ball-erinas will be donating $899 to the United Way of Tanana Valley. The Ball Chasers will be donating $886 to Loving Companions Animal Rescue. The Cannonballs will be donating $693 to The Door Youth Shelter. BCDC will be donating $542 to the Breast Cancer Detection Center. Add all of that up and this amazing school community raised $12,364.50 to donate! We cannot thank all of you enough for your support, encouragement and generosity over the past month of Champions for Charity Events. C4C teams raised over $9600! Which depending on a team’s place in the overall C4C standings, more will be added to your total donation for your charity.
Here are the Fundraising Standings:
For those who weren’t sure how we calculated the points here it is: Teams earn points in the following categories. The team with with most points at the end of the C4C month will be crowned the NPMS Champions for Charity. Sportsmanship: The refs decide this, so be on your best behavior during the games. Most Money Raised for Charity: Any money made from your silent auction items goes directly toward this along with direct donations, Family Night Admissions, donated concessions, and finding volunteers for events, which we will convert to a monetary value. Team Spirit: Student Body votes on the team they believe has the best team spirit. Get a crowd to support your team and charity! McHenryball Tournament: Overall place in the tournament. Points will be distributed among all teams in the following manner for the Fundraising and the McHenryball Tournament categories: 1st Place for each category: 15 points 2nd Place: 12 points 3rd Place: 10 points 4th Place: 9 points 5th Place: 8 points 6th Place: 7 Points 7th Place: 6 Points 8th Place: 5 Points 9th Place: 4 Points 10th Place: 3 Points Team Spirit Student Body Vote: Maximum Points=10. Teams earn points equivalent to their place in voting. First place earns 10 points, 2nd-9 points, 3rd-8 points, etc. Sportsmanship: The five referees rank each team from 3 being great sports, 2 being neutral and 1 being poor sports. The average is then doubled and added to the team points. In the event that there is a tie in points after all 4 categories have been totaled, the team that raised the most money for their charity will win. For the past month NPMS students and staff have worked together to raise money for 10 charities. Teams did an amazing job of bringing in donations and recognition to their charities. Fundraising totals have not been finalized and we are working on compiling each team’s overall place in our Champions for Charity standings. But as of this morning we are extremely proud to announce that teams have raised over $9500! This is more than we donated all together in the past three years!
