North pole middle school Champions for charity TOURNAMENT HISTORY
THE HISTORY OF OUR EVENTS
Over $59,000 raised and donated since 2012 by north pole middle school students
On the first day of the 2012-2013 school year, North Pole Middle School lost a beloved member of its community in a tragic accident. Classmates of 8th grader James Walters wanted a way to honor James and the activities he loved. The James Walters Memorial McHenryball Tournament was held on Tuesday, December 18th. Over 20 teachers and 80 students at NPMS participated in an athletic tournament of champions, benefiting Fairbanks Youth Football and Cheerleading, Fairbanks Boy Scouts and The Food Bank. We were able to donate $1225 to the FYFC and $1225 to The Fairbanks Boys Scouts.
2012 TOTAL DONATIONS MADE: $2450
Shortly after school was out in May of 2013, we lost another student, Robyn Blemke, in another accident. We again worked together as a school to honor our classmate and friend and what was important to her. Over 100 students and 30 staff members came together to play McHenryball and raise over $2600. $1000 was donated to the Fairbanks Gymnastics Booster Club and $475 was donated to the Alaska Literacy Council, Girls Read program in memory of Robyn Blemke. The first and second place teams also were able to donate $900 to the Make a Wish Foundation and $300 to Loving Companions Animal Shelter.
